Trump raises $34 million for presidential campaign, with donations soaring

Former President donald trump has raised over $34 million for his race to the White House in 2024.

The embattled politician’s campaign said fundraising had received a huge boost as a result of his recent indictment. reports Politically.

Trump raised $18.8 million through his joint fundraising committee and campaign in the first quarter. However, two weeks after being charged with forging business records, he generated nearly $15.4 million, according to his campaign. The indictment reportedly helped Trump broaden his fundraising base — in fact, nearly a quarter of those who donated to Trump during that time had never given him anything, Politico notes.

“In general, it’s good for fundraising when a candidate’s name is ubiquitous in the media and dominates the attention.” Eric Wilson, a Republican digital strategist, told the publication. “The widespread reporting has simply brought him to the fore for donors.”

According to Trump’s fundraiser, he raised around $168,000 a day from Jan. 1 until the indictment on March 30. Within 24 hours of the indictment being announced, the former president raised over $4 million.

The campaign raised $14.5 million in the first quarter, most of which came from a referral from the joint fundraising committee. It spent $3.5 million and had $13.9 million in cash as of March 31.

Politico also notes that Trump’s campaign involved a GOP fundraiser Meredith O’Rourke to oversee its financial efforts.

According to a recent Opinion poll, while Trump’s impeachment could bolster his base supporters, it won’t necessarily help him win the moderate voters he needs to win back the White House. In March, a federal grand jury indicted the former president on criminal charges related to paying hush money adult film star Stormy Daniels.
