Trump recalls the time he wanted to ‘deactivate’ TikTok: ‘I was…

donald trump said during “everyone” wants to “destroy” TikTok now, it was he who tried to “disable” the Chinese short-form video platform three years ago.

What happened: Trump posted his comments on Truth Social on Wednesday, saying, “When I wanted to disable TIKTOK 3 years ago, I encountered resistance from [Republican In Name Only] RINOS to Democrats to everyone else.”

“They actually went to court to stop me. Now they realize I was right and have changed their mind. Unfortunately, I was right about everything!”

The USA Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives recently voted to give president Joe Biden the power to ban TikTok in the United States.

Why it matters: On Tuesday, Sen. Markus Warner (D-Va.) and a dozen senators have also introduced legislation to ban the application and other foreign-based technologies if they pose a national security threat. The bipartisan bill has received White House endorsement, Reuters reported.

Trump signed one supreme command To ban TikTok in August 2020. His government had accused the app of siphoning off “huge swaths of information” from users, including location data and browsing and search histories.

In the end, the ban was averted when Trump gave his blessing for a deal that would have seen TikTok sold to them Oracle Corp. ORCL.

In August it was reported that it was TikTok just before a deal to store its US users’ information at Oracle without parent company ByteDance having access to it.
