donald trumpThe social media company sued the Washington Post for $3.8 billion in a slander Lawsuit alleging that the publication made false and defamatory statements against them.
What happened: The Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (TMTG), which is to merge with the blank check company Digital World Acquisition Corp. DWACsaid the news publication knowingly made “false” and defamatory statements against the company “to harm TMTG’s business”.
The company also alleges that The Post worked with a former Truth Social employee who leaked documents to create a “fraudulent account of securities fraud.”

The lawsuit was filed after The Post published an article earlier this month titled “Trust linked to porn-friendly bank could take part in Trump’s Truth Social,” alleging that the bank was ES Family Trust could acquire a large stake in TMTG.
It also said the former president’s company allegedly paid the ES Family Trust a $240,000 finder’s fee for arranging the $8 million loan agreement, an amount the company says it never paid have paid.
Why it matters: The Post article published weeks ago was cited internal documents obtained from a whistleblower and former Executive Vice President of Operations at TMTG, Will Wilkerson. He reportedly shared around 150,000 emails, contracts and documents that were sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission and investigators in Florida and New York. However, Truth Social has argued that Wilkerson was a grudge-bearing former employee who allegedly provided misleading information to multiple publications.
